about
As part of an overall renovation of the Pittsburgh International Airport, we collaborated with Allegheny County Airport Authority to redesign KIDSPORT, a 2,100 square foot interactive children’s play area in Concourse C. This playspace was one of the first of its kind when it opened in 1983, and in great need of an update 33 years later.
In 2016, we added interactive components and art such as Balance See Saws to make it a favorite destination for families once again. We also , agreed to update the experiences and assist with overall planning and art direction of the space periodically as part of our partnership. In 2019, we worked with our partners at The Fred Rogers’ Productions to add elements from our traveling exhibition Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood : A Grr-ffic Exhibit, including a version of the clock from Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, new versions of the Post Office, Music Shop and School, a video display wall and an artifact display case. Renovations, executed by more than 100 airport workers, was a community effort.
“Bringing more of the region’s rich arts and cultural scene and featuring our regional assets here is important,” says Christina Cassotis, CEO of the Allegheny County Airport Authority.
