about
This interactive area opened in 2018 at PNC Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates, to invite children and families to learn vital skills in an enjoyable, hands-on way when they attend baseball games.
Displays and interactive experiences that communicate science, technology, engineering and math principles related to the sport include a vertical scale that allows visitors to explore how body position affects the height of a jump and interactive graphics that let visitors measure and compare distances on a baseball diamond.
The exhibit also features a video wall that showcases how baseballs, gloves and bats are manufactured; a batting cage that utilizes a shortened bat and VR technology to give visitors a 360-degree view of the ballpark as they swing for the fences; and a TV and radio broadcasters’ booth offer a role play experience while allowing kids to call the games in real time.
