In 2025, Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh partnered with the Junior Achievement of Western PA and EQT Corporation to design the EQT storefront in JA BizTown® – an interactive wall about planning a pipeline route to bring natural gas from a drill site to a processing plant. The wall includes magnetic panels designed to hold various ramps and tubes to be used to direct balls from one side to the other, while the map is designed to highlight real world obstacles one may encounter while laying a natural gas pipeline (cities, mountains, protected wildlife areas), demonstrating the complexities of pipeline planning.
Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh’s first collaboration at JA BizTown® was with ANSYS to design their storefront, a fully interactive community simulation. While working at ANSYS, students design and build a bridge as well as use engineering software and various materials to sell an item during the shopping period. The museum provided space planning and interior design services, coordinated the environmental graphic design and signage packages, selected furniture, and supervised installation of materials, furniture and equipment, with every element aligned to most effectively achieve STEM learning goals.
JA BizTown® merges classroom curriculum with hands-on experience in a fully interactive space simulating a bustling community. With 21 storefronts representing key industries, students explore roles as business owners and consumers, applying financial principles in real-world scenarios. This program offers a glimpse into various careers, fosters community engagement, and sparks aspirations for a bright future.
