about
We collaborated with Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum in Pittsburgh to transform a traditional gallery into an immersive space with interactive experiences that engage visitors in new ways to help make the World War II relatable and relevant to children. Utilizing a unique existing curved wall, the Ship to Dock experience replicates the hull of a docked ship with forced perspective graphics and interactive elements that give visitors several ways to engage with the Museum’s historical content.
Specific elements include a sound scape of soft waves, machinery, sea gulls, aircraft flying overhead, or other audio consistent with various historical narratives; a view finder portal with scenes of inside the ship; a camouflage dial that demonstrates how military uniforms are designed to match the environment; and a flag activity that lets visitors use the real US Navy coding system to send messages.
